As we collectively work to help our students write creatively this year, we thought an aligned creative writing rubric might help our efforts. We created this rubric by keeping our same convention/ word-choice standards from argumentative writing and thinking about the sorts of messages that great poets and story-tellers convey.
Like everything we do in writing, two principles hold true with creative writing:
- The best way to build your and your students’ vision of a writing project is to READ & ANALYZE exemplary text first!
- This rubric isn’t definitive! If (when!) you adapt it for a project, send your project to Sarah.Franzen@teachforamerica.org so we can upload your thinking in order to expand all of our thinking.
