ELA-KO-2013: What is Due? What are the KEY considerations for each item?

  • Answers to the following questions (template usage is optional):
    • What do I want for my students as readers (quantitatively and qualitatively) by the end of the year?  What will they do, say, think, believe, achieve as readers?
    • What do I want for my students as writers (quantitatively and qualitatively) by the end of the year?  What will they do, say, think, believe, achieve as writers?
    • What do I want for my students as speakers and leaders (quantitatively and qualitatively) by the end of the year?  What will they do, say, think, believe, achieve as speakers/ leaders?

Unit 1 Plan (Remember!  We HIGHLY recommend that you modify one of the sample unit plans!): due end of day 7/26

  • Answers to the following questions:
    • What texts do I want to teach in this unit? How do the texts talk to each other?  How are these texts thematically linked?
    • What CFQs and essay questions are my students going to write?  This is your assessment.
    • What date will I give my reading level test (likely ACT or Gates-McGinitie)?  When will I share progress with students?
    • What date will I give my first CFQ?  When will I share progress with students?
    • Calendared objectives for (at least) the first 3-weeks.

Culture Plan:  due end of day 7/20

  • Answers to the following questions:
    • What are my rules or core values?  How do these align to my vision?
    • What are my logistics procedures?  How will I reinforce them?
    • What are my ELA-procedures?  How will I reinforce them?
    • What are my consequences?  How will I track this to keep up with it?
